It is 22 degrees outside right now. And it is still snowing. It is a light fine snow and we have had 6 or 7 inches so far. This morning, Colleen got her snow blower out and cleared off the deck, the ramps, the sidewalks. She really looked like Mrs. Claus. Her eyebrows were white! Rick has a heavy cold, probably from the airplane. His resistance is low right now, and it is easy for him to pick up germs. So the soup got put on the stove, Colleen added more chicken broth and chicken, and man did it taste good!
The birds have been so cute outside, vying for the bird feeders, which Colleen had replenished while she was out. All the finches get along well, but let one of the black=headed juncos come near, and at least one finch takes after him, and they look like whirly birds. Wish I could capture the action on my camera, but they whirl so fast, that by the time I have my camera ready, they both have stopped. The quail took over the bigger bird feeder for some time, but every once in a while I would see a top knot bobbing up and down behind the railing of the deck, below the smaller feeder.
This type of snow comes from Rick called the Puget Sound Convergence Zone, when cold air comes down from Alaska, and warm air is coming up from the south. Both this area and across to the Midwest are the recipients of the Alberta Clipper, which brings heavy snows and cold blasting winds. That is not what this snowfall is.
After finishing "Luncheon of the Boating Party," by Susan Vreeland, about Renoir, I picked up another book I had brought with me, entitled "Outcasts United". I am just into it, and love it. A non-fiction book, it is about refugees from various countries in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, who were relocated to a small town near Atlanta, and about a young woman who helps to establish a soccer team. It is written by Warren St. John. Also, last night, Colleen and I watch LAST HOLIDAY, which was fun and had us laughing.
I have cut a sugar pumpkin in half, and have the halves baking in the oven. I am going to make pumpkin pie. I have the seeds soaking, and will put them on a cookie sheet with a little salt, and roast them. We are going to have 10 people for Thanksgiving. This is going to be fun!
Off to pull out the pumpkin.
Life is good!
Adieu, Adios, Mahalo,
I love you all,
Sally
