Happy 65th Birthday to my sister, Marty!!! She now gets Medicare and all that good stuff!

Several days ago, when I was checking email, both "gmail" and "AOL", I found an "AOL" spam which was headed: CHRISTMAS IS COMING!! Sale on Viagra and Cialis..." That is REALLY something I will take advantage of for sure...

Tuesday morning I woke up and looked out my window. The whole world was covered with snow, and it was falling steadily. We had already had about three or four inches on the ground overnight. I think in all, around here, probably about 6 inches fell. Mr. Pumpkin had on a white hat...

In the mountains of course there was a lot more, but at the time, the mountains weren't visible. Yesterday, with such a clear sky, they were beautiful glistening like diamonds in the sun...

After breakfast, I went out with my broom and swept off the steps, and then Matilda. I went over to my neighbor's and told her I would pick up her mail. I asked Virginia if I could park Matilda in her vacant lot across the street from me, because I didn't want to get her damaged by plows or cars sliding in to her. Virginia looked at me, and said "There are no plows. As long as I have lived here, I have never seen a plow come down this road!" Matilda and I went up to the post office. I was talking to the substitute postal lady, Susan. She then told me that I 25 had been closed in the night, from Belen, near Albuquerque, to Las Alamos, a distance of about 200 miles! Needless to say, that blew my mind. Apparently the blowing snow had piled up on the interstate. Now I understand closing interstates like I 80 and I90 when there is a blizzard going on, but...

It is cold in Lemitar today, but the sky is cloudless and bright blue. Last night the moon shone through my bedroom window. When I got up this morning, and turned up the heat and turned on my space heater, I found that the water was not draining from the sink. Frozen pipes. How wonderful. However, in the bathroom, everything is working well, so perhaps I will wash my dishes in the bathtub! At some point today the pipes will clear, I am sure, and the water will drain. Life is an adventure.

Then I got a call from the repairman that has done work here and who I have had many conversations with. He was coming over to pick up the check for the adobe work. When he came in, I told him that the sink wasn't draining. He tried a plunger, but that didn't work. Then he went outside, walked around the back, and came back in and told me that the problem was that the drain pipe came out from the wall, and then went into the ground, leaving it exposed. He got out some tools, and was able to unscrew the ... whatever it is called ... without breaking the pipe. There was a large piece of ice in it, and he got that out, and everything drained. By the way, he also told me that it was below zero last night, and when he woke up this morning, it was 2 degrees above zero. These temps are very unusual around here, but he said they had this kind of weather last year also. No Global Warming? Bah-humbug!

I am getting things packed, and my presents are all wrapped for Marty, Will, Phil and Gihan. Everything else has been sent out. I will be seeing Phil and Gihan on Sunday for lunch and a walk in a bird sanctuary. That will be fun.

Our family suffered a very sad loss this week. My brother Jack's daughter, Judy, died of cancer. She was only in her 40's.

Marty and I leave for Maui and Molokai on December 13th, first to Maui for two nights and one full day, and then take the ferry to Molokai, where we will pick up our car rental.

To all of you I wish you peace and love.
Be safe, be well.
Life is good.

A hui hou,
I love you all,
Sally
