Do you ever wonder how we survived without A/C? I am an Iowan, and spent my first eighteen years there. It was HOT and HUMID. We had no A/C. We got through it, with mom heating up the kitchen with all the canning she did. I don't remember even having fans going. And I am here as living proof that people can get through such weather. But don't tell me that Global Warning doesn't have anything to do with the temps! This type of weather has always been mostly in late July and all of August - the dog days of August, remember? It isn't even July yet!
Well, I heard from Dr Burgess on last Thursday. I have a torn medial meniscus. I think it is torn cartilage. He told me that he could repair it, but then it would probably exacerbate the arthritis in that knee. Or I could have a knee replacement. Or I could take two Aleve twice a day to relieve the pain. So, I asked him, "What would you do?" To which he replied, "Two Aleve." So that is what I have been doing. I felt so good that Thursday, that I probably was overdoing things, and when I got up from dinner Thursday night, I heard a "pop" and I was immobilized. I knew immediately what I had done - a Baker's Cyst had ruptured, behind my left knee. I called the doctor, and was told to ice it down, and stay off the leg as much as possible. Yeah, right! I have been icing it down. But it is still hard to walk. This too shall pass.
The newlyweds returned on Saturday, and are back to work in Charlotte, NC. They had an okay time. Too many young people getting drunk and partying!
I got a neat digital camera from my kids for my birthday. Now I have to figure out how to use it. The first thing I am going to do is get another card for it, as the one I have isn't working - camera keeps saying "card error". Then I will send back the original card. This camera I can actually see the icons and I look forward to using it, and learning how to put photos up on my computer, and if I get really good, on my blog!
More later ...
Adios,

I remember we had a great ac unit that was never used during the dog days of summer! Great post, mom. I hope your knee gets better
ha! i remember we had a killer AC unit that lay dormant during the dog days of summer while we used paper fans and battery operated fans to cool us off...the only way that AC would turn on is by the threat of death.
Great post, mom! I hope you get your camera back soon. i can't wait to see pics to accompany your posts. Take care of that knee!
Love you!
