Gosh, it is the 17th of October, and I haven't posted anything since the 4th, I believe!! So much has happened between then and now. My flight to Boston went without a hitch. I was in the first row, aisle seat, and used a wheelchair to get back and forth to plane and front plane. Scott was waiting for me at the baggage counter, and Siobhan was with the car.
My girls, Sammy and Maggie greeted me with hellos, and were on my bed most of the time I was there. They look good, and I am grateful that Siobhan is taking good care of them.
On the 6th, I took Scott to work, and then drove to Sudbury for Berthe's 100th birthday celebration. She looks wonderful. If I could figure out how to post up a picture, I would. But that I haven't learned as yet. It was a great celebration. Berthe received several citations from the Massachusetts House and Senate, the Governor, the Selectmen of Sudbury, and Berthe Lessard Day was proclaimed in Sudbury that same day. She was beautiful, gracious, smiling, and joking with everyone. I think she thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Now it is the 21st! Where did four days go?
I was also able to meet with four of five women who comprise my Women's Group. We had lunch and talked and talked. I try to see them every time I get up that way. I also had breakfast with dear friends from Lawrence, MA.
Saturday, Siobhan took me to the bus and I went into Logan Airport, caught a flight to Richmond, rented a car, and drove to Elkton about midnight. It was great to see Bucky and June. I had a basket of mail, of course most of it being junque! There was a good letter from Artie and John who are going to have me stay with them when I go to Molokai.
I had lunch with my good friend, Ann, and on Tuesday morning, the 12th, I went to see my orthopedist. My x-rays were great, the knee and femur showing continued healing, and I have no more appointments until I make one when I am once again in Elkton, which will probably be next spring. That evening, I drove back down to Richmond, went to Best Western, and checked in, then went and dropped off my car. I called BW and told them to pick me up. Nothing. I called them again, the desk clerk said that someone should be there within five minutes. Nothing. A couple of the employees of Budget, who drive the returned cars down to be serviced, told me they would take me over to BW, which they did. There are great people everywhere!
Wednesday, the 13th, at 7AM, I flew out of Richmond headed for Boston, changed planes, and flew directly to San Diego. I was greeted at all the airports with a wheelchair to ride it, which I did not mind one bit! Will was there to meet me, God Bless him!
On Thursday, I looked up Physical Therapist, Marty giving me some suggestions that might be close by. I picked out three different groups, close to each other. On Friday, I made a call to Inniss Physical Therapists. Why did I pick them, you ask. Because my one and only perfume is INIS from Ireland!!! I was asked if I could come in right then. I hopped in Matilda, drove five minutes away, and there I was. And I really like the therapist I have, Leah Inniss. She and her husband own the business. She gave me two hours of her time making assessments, and giving me exercises to do at home, 2 times daily, 5 sets of 10 each. I made appointments for the next four weeks. And, I have been doing my exercises twice a day ever since.
Saturday, Marty and I went to Old Town and to the Old Town Theatre to see WRITE OUT LOUD, which are readings of various stories. The theme this time was Halloween, and four very talented actors read pieces by Edgar Alan Poe, Ray Bradbury, Lafcadio Hearn, Jerome K. Jermone, and H.P. Lovecraft. Six stories in all. Wonderful! There should be more of this kind of theatre. We then went to a favorite Mexican restaurant of Marty's in Old Town, and had fish tacos, the first I have ever had. I believe I prefer meat or chicken ones.
Monday I was back at the therapist's. This time I received three more exercises, to be added on. One I holding back, because I was not doing the high school version of it correctly, and Leah told me to do that, before I graduate to college level. She also told me that she felt that I did not have to see her the rest of the week, as she feels I am making great progress. So I will see her this coming Monday. She doesn't think that she will need to actually see me much longer, but assured me that I could call her whenever, and that if I needed to see her, and the receptionist said she had no open appointments, I was to tell the receptionist, that "Leah told me she would come in early or stay after work, to see me!" I really like this woman!
There is a wonderful yogurt place near here, which Marty and Will go to all the time. Yogurtland! And, it is good! I can testify to that. I loved their mango yogurt, then they stopped making it! I cried. Will said the last time he went for us, that their new flavor was RED VELVET CAKE yogurt!!!! That is definitely not for me. Hopefully they will bring back the mango. They have at all times, about 20 different flavors, and they charge so much an ounce. You just take a cup and fill it as much as you want. The yogurt is soft but intensely flavored. Two different kinds are paired, so that if you want to blend them you can. But you can get as many flavors as you want in one cup. THEN, you can put toppings on your cup - fruits, candy, syrups, nuts. Unbelievable. I love it!!!!!!
It has been overcast here this week, and there was a lot of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. Marty says "winter is here." The heat is on - temps outside are in the 60's!!! Please don't laugh. She has become a California gal. Actually she has been one for quite a while, having been in San Diego for 30 + years.
I am back on work on the Civil War letters - 1864. I have revised about six or seven so far, and am finding myself very frustrated at time because pages are missing, or just end abruptly. And William's letters started in January, 1864, then halted in February. And resumed in June. Where are all the rest of the letters in between these months, I ASK????
That's it for today. I will try not to be so long in writing from now on.
Adieu, Adios, Mahalo!
I love you all,
Sally
