March is already half over, and since I arrived here last Thursday evening late, I have hardly moved anything out of my car. However I did get my taxes ready and took them over to my tax person yesterday. And I did go through three baskets of mail, sorted it out, and got everything organized, filed, recycled, and piled!

My trip to Elkton was a four day one, 2865 miles to be exact. I did not stop unless to gas up, pee, and spend the night at a Best Western hotel. I listened to books on tape, which I have found is wonderful when you are driving long distances. I really didn't get tired at all, and I spent some very long days behind the wheel. The last day was a 12 hour one, with over 750 miles driven, and yet, because I was listening to the 13th TALE, which had 13 discs, I just drove along having no problems with tiredness or the weather.

Going up to Los Angeles to see Phil and Gihan was easy as pie, and I got to my hotel with no problems, and that evening, Phil picked me up and we met Gihan, Dr. Salem, and Gihan's sister and brother and their families, for dinner. It was great. Then the next day, after Phil had to deliver some things, we went down to Venice Beach, had breakfast at a new restaurant, and both of us gave two thumbs down. Very bad service and cold food.

The Mardi Gras parade was a hoot and a holler. Jon McBride, a friend of Phil's from grade school on, was one of the musicians marching. He was dressed in green and gold, even his shoes were gold. The parade was made up mostly of adults in some of the wildest outfits, faced painted, some on stilts, etc.

Then we met Gihan at the Getty and saw several exhibits, one being bronzes from Angkor, Cambodia. Most were of Buddha, hundreds of years old, made of bronze. From being very small to about three feet high, they were fascinating to look at. Phil and Gihan went to a photographic display also.

I sat outside and people watched.

One of my favorite things to do. I also saw a maginificent sunset, and got some good photos of it.

Phil, Gihan and I went to dinner that night.

The next day, Phil picked me up and we went to breakfast at a farmer's market nearby and we wandered around a bit. Then we went to a friend of Kat's, and picked up a small mosaic garden table she was holding for Kat, and then went to Kat's old neighborhood where she had her last house, and visited for a while with her neighbors, James and Dick.

They were holding a garden statue of Ganesha, an Elephant god, which we also picked up. Both are still in my car, and I will have to make plans to take them up to Kat at some point. We drove back to Phil and Gihan's apartment, which I had never seen. It is really a nice one. They are looking for a duplex house, which they and Gihan's brother, Ramsey, would buy together. At the apartment, Phil showed me how to do some things on my computer. Gihan came in and we all talked. Then went out and got pizza and Phil took me back to the hotel. The next day I was off and driving, me and Matilda!

I drove the 10 to Phoenix, over I 17, to I 40, which was a direct shot to I 81. I stopped in Winslow, Arizona, somewhere in Oklahoma, and Jackson, Tennessee.

The earthquake in Japan and resulting tsunami were terrible. It seems like we are having one thing after another these days. Our planet is certainly rearranging itself and is active. Someone told me that the volcano, Mauna Loa I believe, erupted on the big island. I hadn't heard about that. I did hear from some of the folks on Molokai, and other than sirens going off, there were no problems.

I am asking for special prayers for those in Japanese who have lost so much. Also, I am asking for healing thoughts and prayers for my cousin, Colleen Hawley, who not only is going through chemo, but just had an aneurysm and is thought to have also had a stroke. She is a very special person, and is married to my cousin, Rick Hawley. They live in Ellensburg, WA, and she is in the hospital in Seattle for the foreseeable future.

Today is my best friend Louise's birthday. We have been friends since we were in 2nd or 3rd grade. And I always remember her birthday because it is on the Ides of March. If you don't know what that means, Google it!!!

Adios, Adieu, A Hui Huo,
Love to all of you,

Sally
